Toothbrushes and Toothpaste

The children welcomed Mrs Fisher in to their class today. Mrs Fisher told the children she was going to talk to them about their teeth. She reminded them they should clean them at least twice a day to brush away food and bugs (bacteria). She also reminded them to not eat too many sweets as they contain lots of sugar. Instead they should eat good snacks that are healthy like bananas, apples, pears, carrots, oranges, cheese, veg sticks and popcorn.  Mrs Fisher spoke to the children about what happens when we eat too many sugary foods. She showed them a hole in a tooth and how it gets bigger and the need for filings. Mrs Fisher showed them a selection of foods and showed them how much sugar was in each item, sweets – 26 spoons of sugar, flavoured water – 6 spoons of sugar, Ribena – 10 spoons of sugar and Yo-Yo Bears – 4 spoons of sugar. Mrs Fisher told the children they need to look after their teeth as we need them to eat, chew, talk and smile. She told the children it is important to look after their teeth and we can do this by visiting the dentist and having our teeth checked.
Mrs Fisher showed the children how to brush their teeth properly. They were told to put a pea size amount of toothpaste onto their toothbrush and to brush their teeth for two minutes. The children followed Mrs Fisher’s instructions and brushed their teeth. Great brushing Kingfishers!
