School Council Recycling

The school Council are now supporting Tesco Soft Plastics Recycling Scheme. Tesco stores have drop-off points for soft plastics, which are not widely recyclable at home. The School Council are now collecting soft plastics from lunchboxes so we can ensure they are disposed of responsibly and don’t end up in landfill or the environment. The materials dropped off to Tesco stores are sorted to remove unsuitable items. Tesco then processes the collected soft plastics. Some are recycled into new items where they can, like bin bags, garden furniture, and planters. However, soft plastics recycling is still developing, and Tesco can’t recycle everything due to limited UK recycling infrastructure and the variety of items deposited. Some materials are incinerated to generate energy, but nothing is sent directly to landfill. The School Council has been provided with a bin and one school councillor will monitor the bin every lunchtime. Miss Jones will take the recycled items to Tesco every week.
