The children in Kingfishers became Scientists and continued focusing on – Everyday Materials. The children thought about the enquiry question – Can we describe why some materials suit certain objects better than others and would you have used the same materials to build the Houses of Parliament? Miss Jones introduced the children to the characters on the slides. They each wanted to build something and were asking the children if they thought they were using the right materials. Miss Jones explained that materials are chosen for their properties and materials are more suited to some uses than others. Miss Jones asked the children – Why do you think lots of houses are made out of brick? Why do you think clothes are made out of fabric? Why do you think lots of tables are made out of wood? The children discussed their ideas for each one and then listened to the explanations on the slides. The children worked with a partner and were given a set of cards. They were challenged to match up the materials to the objects they should be made out of. The children were able to justify their answers commenting on the properties of the materials. Great work Kingfishers.
