Year 6 have been learning about Charles Darwin and his Theory of Evolution. We looked at how different finches on the Galapagos Islands have different shaped beaks and thought about what this told us about their diet. We carried out an investigation to see which type of beak is suited to which food type. We learned that the thinner, smaller ‘beaks’ were more suited to eating small seeds and that the larger beaks were more suited to eating the larger fruits such as grapes. The children then concluded that the different birds lived on different islands according to the food sources available.
