Sculptures and 3D Creation Station – Play Dough

The children became ‘artists’ and thought about the questions – Can we explore playdough and its properties? Can we use tools safely and with confidence?
The children started the lesson with a ‘Dough Dance Party’ manipulating the clay in time to music. Mrs Clark put on some funky music and they listened to her instructions and followed them in time with the music for example, squeeze it in each hand or pinch it between their thumb and finger in turn. They then experimented different ways of modelling with their ball of play dough by rolling, pinching, pushing, poking, rolling and twisting it. They used different tools to mark make and create sculptures. They said it felt soft and cold although the more they worked with it the warmer it got. They recognised similarities to the clay that they used for their sculptures last week.
