The children have been exploring the unit Programming Beebot in Computing. The children thought about the enquiry question – Can we explore a new device? Mrs Clark showed the children a Beebot and explained to them that Beebots follow instructions but that she was not going to tell them how. The children listened to Mrs Clark as she showed them a presentation about getting to know a Beebot. The children were given five minutes to get them working. The children were given one rule – No pushing them along like a toy car because dousing a Beebot forces the wheels to turn whilst the motor is trying to hold them still which breaks the Beebot. The children were asked to share what they had found out. They also discussed the clear button. The children were given three challenges – build a bridge out of bricks for Beebot to drive through, make the Beebot turn all the way round in a circle without moving off the starting spot and to get Beebot from the start position to as close to the wall without crashing. Before the children tackled the challenges they were introduced to a success criteria – think about what you are going to do first (predict) try it out (explore) and see if they were right (explain). The children tried very hard to complete the challenges and discussed how they did as a class. Great work Kingfishers.
