The children welcomed Jay the fire fighter into school. Jay read the children a story called Know How To Get Out. They recapped over the story and went over the main points. They learned a rhyme to remember if they hear the fire alarm at home – Get out, Stay out, Call 999. They were told not to worry about pets as they will get out – Don’t go in after animals. They were taught how to make a 999 call – they should ask for the fire service and give their address. He told them if their is smoke in the room, to get to the floor and duck down. They were taught what to do it they had fire on them – Stop, drop and roll. Jay spoke about bonfire night and how to hold sparklers safely as they are very hot and told them they should be put in a bucket of sand after they have gone out and not to go back. He also told the children to remember to test their fire alarm at home every month. Great listening Kingfisher.
