In English we have been reading the novel: ‘The Boy at the Back of the Class’ which is about a Syrian refugee child who comes to the UK. One of his school mates, wants to try and make him feel at home so asks his mum if she can buy him a pomegranate as this fruit is grown in Syria and would be familiar to Ahmet. The children all had a taste of a pomegranate and learnt how to spell the word using this reminder: it’s ‘One half of pom pom and a delicious letter “e” that your Gran ate’. Pom-e-gran-ate!
