The Great Fire of London Workshop

The children were very excited to take part in The Great Fire of London Workshop. They  listened to instructions and followed them and they were very well behaved. The children constructed a model of London looking at the street names. They learned about the materials, methods of construction and positioning of houses and London Bridge. The scene was set – London 1666. The children role played the story of the fire in the bakery. They learned how to make a bucket chain and how to use a fire hook. The children operated a cart fire – engine with pump and hose but they found this was not effective. They learned about a barrel of gunpowder being used to blow up the houses to stop the fire spreading. The children met Samuel Pepys and listened to some extracts from his diary. The children took part in three carousel activities. The first activity was with Samuel Pepys which was a multi- sensory activity. The second activity was looking at information boards and answering questions. The third activity was playing the Great Fire of London game – building houses. The children have had a great experience learning all about the Great Fire of London. The children all joined in and had a really lovely morning. Great listening Kingfishers.
