A Royal Declaration.

The children in Woodpeckers class have been learning about The British Empire. They have learnt about the British trading triangle between England, Africa and India. They took part in a class discussion about how the slave trade began and their opinion on it. We looked at how it still has some influence today and why this is wrong. The children learnt about Queen Elizabeth giving a royal charter to The East India Company to grant them the right to sail to Asia and establish trading alliances. The children used role play to help them get to grips with the vocabulary needed. They then drafted their own royal charters. Finally they tea-stained paper and used black pens to create their own royal charters using ‘royal’ writing to be displayed within the class. Well done!
