Modern Foreign Languages
At Stratford St Mary Primary School, we believe through high-quality planning, teaching and assessing, the Modern Foreign Languages (French) curriculum will provide a range of opportunities which will:
- Enable our pupils to communicate in French for practical purposes, understanding and communicating ideas, facts and feelings, focused on familiar and routine matters.
- Enable our pupils to speak French with increasing confidence, fluency and spontaneity, finding ways of communicating what they want to say, including through discussion and asking questions, and continually improving the accuracy of their pronunciation and intonation.
- Support our pupils to write in French, at varying length, for different purposes and audiences, using the variety of grammatical structures that they have learnt.
- Inspire our pupils to discover and develop an appreciation of a range of writing in the language studied, including stories, songs, poems and rhymes.
- Support our pupils to engage with, understand and respond to spoken and written language from a variety of authentic sources.
- Foster our pupils’ curiosity and deepen their understanding of the world and the range of languages and cultures it contains.
- Provide our pupils with a foundation for learning further languages, equipping pupils to study and work in other countries in the future.
