Germs & Waterproof Materials

This half term in Science, the children have been learning about different scientific inventors. Last week, the children learnt about Louie Pasteur and the discovery of germs. They did an experiment with glitter to see how easily germs are spread and the importance of washing hands. Then, this week the children learnt about Charles Macintosh and the invention of waterproof coats.  The children had to conduct a scientific experiment to see which materials would be suitable to design a water proof coat. They used pipettes to squirt water onto materials over a beaker and timed it to see if the water was absorbed into the material or if it dripped through. They improved their understanding of what waterproof meant and were able to test their predictions. Well done Woodpeckers!
