Science – Rachel Carson

Last week, the children became Scientists. This half term the focus of their Science is a Scientist Study looking at the Essential Question – Why do scientists need to look after our seas?. The children thought about the question – What is a Marine Biologist? Who is Rachel Carson? The children listened to Miss Jones as she told them all about the scientist Rachel Carson. They learned about her life and how she was a Marine Biologist. The children performed an experiment to prove Rachel Carson’s work following the instructions given by Miss Jones. The children investigated what happens when pesticides/chemicals are used near the ocean. The children collected three samples of ‘ocean water’ and found that pesticides polluted the water. The children recorded their results and answered questions to conclude their experiments. Miss Jones shared a book about Rachel Carson with the children. Great work Scientists!
