On Tuesday 25th May, the Owls had an Art Day, focusing on African printmaking. In the morning, the children used their sketch books to investigate African printmaking designs and develop some of their own. We looked at the common features that could be found in most African print designs (bold colours and shapes, repetitive patterns). In the afternoon, they learnt three different printmaking techniques: monoprinting, press printing and collograph printing. The children adapted their designs from the morning to make suitable print block designs using all three techniques. They then used ink and rollers to have a go at printing. All of the children demonstrated a fantastic attitude and produced some very impressive work.
