Fabulous Fireworks Calligrams!

The topic for this half term is ‘Fire, Fire’. In Literacy, we have been basing our writing on Fireworks and Bonfire Night and have been learning how to write structured calligrams. A calligram is a poem that uses its design and layout of the letters to create a visual image related to the meaning of the topic. We decided to arrange our poems into a firework shape to create firework calligrams. The children watched a video of some fireworks, shared their past experiences and brainstormed lots of different vocabulary based around the topic using different word classes. They then used the word banks they had created to help them create their fireworks calligrams. The children had great fun using colours and different letter sizes to place emphasis on certain words in their sentences about fireworks. Well done Woodpeckers!
