This term, Owls class are working on an Edible Garden project for DT. They have already learnt about different kinds of herbs and have planted some. This week, we took one of the herbs, basil, and had a go at using it to make pesto. The children practised their chopping skills and all had a go at crushing the pesto with a pestle and mortar. Rachel had cooked some pasta for us, so the children all got to taste a little bit of pasta with the pesto. Every single child was willing to taste the pesto they had made, and most of them loved it! We also discussed the ingredients in the pesto, which food groups these belonged to, and how these contributed to a balanced diet. Lots of fantastic learning Owls. Well done!
