The Swans have been learning about ‘The Stolen Generation’. They wrote an explanation text about this; and one child was asked to read her work to the class. The standard of their writing has been exceptional. The children have learnt about the effects of colonisation on the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children who were forcibly removed from their families under the government policy of assimilation – where mixed-race children were forced to become part of white society, in an attempt to outbreed them.
