Swans
The children in Swans have been thinking about why it is important to protect our rainforests. They have been busy creating our class rainforest display and have produced some wonderful ‘Double-Page Spreads’ about this fascinating biome in Geography
As part of our half term topic based on ‘The Titanic’, the Swans children started to construct their Titanic rooms. Lots of Design and Technology skills were used – including using the saws!
This week in science, the Swans have been learning about why boats don’t sink. They discovered that the shape of the object affects its ability to float. They looked at an object’s buoyancy in relation to the Archimedes Principle and had lots of fun trying to design a boat that would hold a certain amount […]
In Science this week, the children in Swans class were investigating the effect different temperatures of water has on an iceberg. We discussed how we could keep the test fair, make predictions, variables, observations and conclusions and also how we could represent the data. Alongside this, the children learnt how to find the volume of […]
This week the children have participated in Road Safety Week. The JRSOs asked the children to take part in a colouring competition. The children have been involved in different road safety activities during the week. The children in Kingfishers class used the JRSO’s equipment to learn how to cross the road safely. They were able […]
Thank you for your contributions towards the 2020 Poppy Appeal. A fantastic £114.31 was raised.
In Science this week we were thinking about what makes a boat move. This led on to discussions about the Titanic’s propeller! The children were given a selection of materials and had to make a simple boat with a propeller which could propel itself through the water. They investigated the following question: How does the […]
The children at school created individual poppies which formed part of a display; this was complemented by some black out poetry from the Swans and some paintings completed by the Kingfishers. We all stood outside on the school field at 11am on the 11th November and observed the 2 minutes silence along with the Nation. […]
In science, the children have been exploring magnetism. They looked at attraction and repulsion which led onto a discussion of how compasses work. We looked at photos of the compass on board Titanic and spoke about why it was placed on the upper deck and not in the hull (due to the iron in the […]
As part of the topic entitled ‘Significant Events’, the children in the Swans class are learning about the ‘Titanic’. In our recent history lesson, the children were given the name of a passenger who was on board the passenger ship; they then had to research facts about him/her and present their findings creatively in a […]
Throughout the half term, the Swans class have been working with our music teacher to learn how to play the drums. The children learnt different rhythms, beats and pieces of music. The children then performed a 5 minute dynamic piece of music. Unfortunately, due to the current situation, we were unable to invite an outside […]
Our history topic this half term was based on the Ancient Greeks and we investigated the question ‘Were the Greeks similar to us’. We researched this topic in great detail and realised there were both similarities and differences; the Greeks were much more gruesome than us but they also lived in a democratic society. We […]
